About this blog 

On this blog, I will write all about football and the numbers behind it. Books I am currently reading are Football Hackers by Christoph Biermann and Done Deal by Daniel Geey.

I am formally a member of the award-winning youtube channel that focuses on Manchester United.

I like to look into the numbers behind the beautiful game to separate fact from fantasy.

I have a background in economics, analysing data and the German language. Along with the Premier League, I have a great interest in the German Bundesliga.

In late 2018 I also developed an interest in the Football Index and plan to incorporate into my statistics based writing when possible.

Education

Diarmuid is a recent Information Systems Graduate from University College Cork, where he received first-class honours. In 2018, he graduated from University College Cork with a bachelors in Economics and German. He also studied for one year at Leibniz University in Hannover Germany. While studying at University College Cork, he held the role as the public relations officer with the Economics Society and finance officer with the photography society. 

 

Technology work

Diarmuid has worked three summers at EMC as the Ireland Centre of Excellence team while studying. From 2018-2019 he was based in Dublin working as an add writer with Cognizant Technologies (Google client) as part of the German team. Most recently he worked as a research/technology consultant with GIS consulting Company Future Analytics Consulting. Here he created a set of KPIs and a framework to help optimize project time management and efficiency. 

 

Photography work

Since 2016, Diarmuid has worked as a professional photographer. His portfolio can be found at FlashFocus.org He has taken photos in over 14 countries across Europe and North America. He has shot many events such as weddings, birthday parties, university balls and much more. His next move is into interior photography.

National Team and League; What’s the Connection? Part 1

Such measures include the spreading out of European championship qualification fixtures over a week period rather than just a couple of days and more recently the introduction of the Nations League. The Nations League aims to decrease the number of meaningless friendly games as well as reduce the number of one-sided matches often shared between nations. Except for fans from smaller countries, who are keen to see big names such as Harry Kane, or   Antoine Greizman, nobody benefits from seeing a nation like England or France beating San Marino 7-0.
